Emily clearly loves to bring out the best in her students and takes the time to tailor her approach to each student and instrument to zero in on what needs improvement. I started with cello lessons and was so impressed by the results of her instruction that I also decided to take violin lessons. Emily has been the best possible guide I could've asked for on my musical learning journey!

As a near beginner who only had played around on the violin on my own, Emily was able to bring me up to speed on many areas of the violin from holding the bow to violin sheet music notation to the different violin positions. Emily did a great job accounting for my music background I gave as well, as I had already some knowledge of music theory and playing other instruments, yet she also knowledgeably answered specific questions I had on the violin throughout the lesson like why we did certain things in terms of the technique. The exercises she picks are helpful and the pieces are enjoyable. Emily shows great patience in teaching, and her wonderfully contagious and kind personality makes learning violin all the more enjoyable.

I think it's safe for me to say that you were the most supportive and musically enhancing private teacher I've ever worked with over the four years I involved myself with Through the Staff. I got a great placement in the county orchestra first violin section and I did great with the pit orchestra and I wouldn't have been that successful without your assistance. Now that I'm about to leave for college, all the techniques and ideas that you showed me through our lessons have stayed in my mind and has aided me in not just violin, but also percussion as well.
